This case study, co-developed with Tom Wickens, presents an innovative approach to online learning through the use of immersive virtual reality (VR) technology on the Spatial platform. In this video, we demonstrate how VR can transform traditional educational environments into dynamic, interactive spaces that foster engagement and creativity. From customisable avatars that provide comfort in remote learning to virtual lecture halls and gallery exhibits that enhance hands-on learning, we explore how these digital environments can revolutionise distance education. While acknowledging the current limitations of Spatial, including account setup and hardware requirements, we highlight its potential as a springboard for future applications, particularly with advancements in platforms like Microsoft Mesh. This case study, built on insights from Tom Wickens’ earlier contributions, invites educators to rethink the possibilities of teaching and learning in an increasingly digital world.
